NASA Ambassador Kevin Gallagher will discuss Mars and the possibility of living on the Red Planet at 6PM on Wed., Jan. 23, at the Key West Public Library, 700 Fleming St. Gallagher has a degree in chemical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and has served as President of his local astronomy club in New Jersey. The Kennedys are an American folk-rock band, consisting of husband and wife Pete and Maura Kennedy. They are recognized for their harmonies and instrumental prowess, blending elements of country music, bluegrass, Western swing and janglepop. The duo have been recording and touring together since 1994.

Café con Libros - David McConnell

David McConnell is the author of “American Honor Killings: Desire and Rage Among Men,” which won the 2014 American Library Association Stonewall Book Award for Non-Fiction. He has also written the novels, “The Silver Hearted,” and “The Firebrat.” His short fiction and journalism have appeared widely in magazines and anthologies. He’s now at work on a memoir about his relationship with a man on death row.

Café con Libros - Tom Corcoran

Tom Corcoran is the writer of the massively popular Alex Rutledge mystery novels set in Key West. The latest in the series was published in November of 2018 and is called “Guava Moon Revenge.” Corcoran is also the author of “Jimmy Buffett: The Key West Years,” and was Buffett’s longtime photographer and co-lyricist of the songs “Cuban Crime of Passion” and “Fins.”

Café con Libros - Kristina Neihouse

Kristina Neihouse was awarded an Anne McKee Artist Fund Grant to publish her debut novel, “Knowing When to Leave,” a near-future dystopian novel about a world coping with catastrophic climate change. Neihouse moved to Key West in 1995 and is a full-time librarian. When not reading, writing or feeding cats, she participates in 5K runs and triathlons.

Café con Libros - Katharyn Howd Machan

Katharyn Howd Machan is a poet and professor at Ithaca College. She has published 30 poetry collections, and her work has appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies, and textbooks. In 2002 she was named the first Poet Laureate of Tompkins County, New York. Every March she leads a five-day workshop, “Writing in the Garden,” as part of the Mana Project, Inc. in Nancy Forrester’s Secret Garden, located in the heart of Old Town, Key West.

Laura Albritton, along with Florida Keys historian Jerry Wilkinson, is the author of the histories “Marathon: the Middle Keys,” “Key West’s Duval Street,” and the 2018 book, “Hidden History of the Florida Keys.” Albritton has written for publications such as the Miami Herald, Sculpture magazine, Harvard Review, the Houston Chronicle, and the Times Literary Supplement.
